A Pyrrhic Victory Harry Potter roleplay “Meet the Characters”

Each and every character involved is unique and fascinating in their own right and they each have a role to play in the events of the war. Get to know who you could be joining forces with or fighting against!

Mary MacDonald and Atticus Scabior

War is messy and complicated and things are never as clearly divided as they seem. Friendships aren’t limited to the sides people have chosen.

Mary MacDonald was a Gryffindor back in Hogwarts and now she works as a war correspondent for the Daily Prophet and fights as a proud member of the Order of the Phoenix. As persistent and inquisitive as any reporter, she has, however, much more integrity than some reporters (looking at you, Skeeter). Of course, having integrity doesn’t mean she doesn’t clash with those that deride what place a reporter might have in a war. This won’t stop her from doing what she thinks is right, though. She’s as sharp-tongued as she is sharp-witted and while she isn’t very good at expressing her feelings or getting close to people, she is loyal to those she calls friends.

That one of her closest friends is young Atticus Scabior is proof of how the lines drawn between the Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix can be inadvertently crossed. Atticus is like a little brother to Mary, but she’s unaware just how tangled in the war the teenager is. In his final year at Hogwarts, Atticus is a sullen Ravenclaw. He’s smarter than most people he knows, but that hasn’t stopped him from falling in with the Dark Lord’s army. Perhaps it’s what led him there in the first place. He isn’t yet trusted enough to be given the Dark Mark, something he greatly resents, even if he sometimes secretly wonders if he’s entangling himself with the wrong side.

Benjy Fenwick and Emmeline Vance

Though they’re both loyal and brave members of the Order of the Phoenix, it would be difficult to find two people more out of place in a war. Benjy and Emmeline are two of the sweetest and kindest people you’ll ever meet.

Benjy Fenwick is an assistant Healer at St Mungo’s, putting off becoming a full-fledged Healer in favour of devoting his time and efforts in helping the Order. Genuinely kind and whole-heartedly loyal, he’s a Hufflepuff through and through.

Emmeline is also a Healer working at the wizarding hospital and a former Hufflepuff. Like Benjy, she sees the best in everyone and only wishes happiness for those she meets. There is a great strength in combatting cruelty with kindness and those that think Emmeline weak simply do not understand her. Both she and Benjy are exceedingly innocent, a trait that frustrates some, amuses many and serves as a reminder that some things can still remain untarnished even in the darkest of days.

Innocent though they are, neither Benjy nor Emmeline are unaffected by the war and behind their smiling faces and kind deeds they’re suffering just as much as any other, simply refusing to let the violence turn them cold.

A Pyrrhic Victory Harry Potter roleplay “Meet the Characters”

Each and every character involved is unique and fascinating in their own right and they each have a role to play in the events of the war. Get to know who you could be joining forces with or fighting against!

Marlene McKinnon and Evan Rosier

One is one of the Order’s best, the other a Death Eater with blood of many on his hands, yet the lives of Marlene McKinnon and Evan Rosier are inexorably intertwined. It’s a relationship as relentless as the war itself.

Marlene McKinnon was a Ravenclaw at Hogwarts and now works as a Hitwitch for the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, with dreams of one day being an Auror. An independant and fiercely loyal woman, she gives her all to fight against the Death Eaters and to protect the innocent lives that they threaten. With a Scottish accent and sharp tongue to rival even Alastor Moody, Marlene is not someone easily forgotten or overlooked.

One person who has certainly not overlooked her is Evan Rosier. To the community at large he is a rich Pureblood and minor Ministry official. To Marlene he is an enigmatic and intoxicating lover. To the Death Eaters he is one of their best and brightest. No one truly knows Evan, however, no one save for himself. He is, simply put, terrifying. Cold, calculating and capable of terrible violence, he lives his life behind masks of emotions, letting no one see more than partial glimpses of his true self. His emotional connection to Marlene is undeniable, but unhealthy and possessive.

Are monsters capable of love?

A Pyrrhic Victory Harry Potter roleplay “Meet the Characters”

Each and every character involved is unique and fascinating in their own right and they each have a role to play in the events of the war. Get to know who you could be joining forces with or fighting against!

Amycus and Alecto Carrow

The Carrow twins are a force to be reckoned with. Slytherins, they’re in the final year at Hogwarts and already climbing the Death Eater ranks. They’re powerful, angry and inseparable, a dangerous combination.

Amycus might not be the brightest of wizards, but he’s full of raw magical power and lacks the sort of caution that might have otherwise led him to try to contain it. This makes him very dangerous. He grew up doted on by his father as his heir, but loathing him for the way he treated Alecto, the ‘spare’ child. While he is an avid supporter of the Dark Lord and on the front lines of the war, his true loyalty and first priority will always be his sister. He’s confident and sultry, but in the privacy of his own mind, confusion prickles through him; sometimes he isn’t sure what’s real and what’s simply in his head.

Like Amycus, Alecto burns with raw magical power, sparking like fire when her quick temper gets the better of her. She grew up despised by her father and ignored by her mother, with only the love of her twin to make life bearable. As a young pureblood lady, it’s her destiny by tradition to marry and carry on the line, but she has no interest in being someone’s trophy. She’s determined to prove her worth amongst the Death Eaters and already has made great strides in doing so. She’s sharp as a tack and as confident as her brother, the one person in the world she would do anything for.

Millicent Bagnold and Gideon Prewett

The Ministry of Magic often seems like a bureaucratic entity all of its own and it can be easy to forget that it’s made up of individuals. That is, until you delve into the lives of those that work there.

Millicent Bagnold is the beautiful young Head of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. An Order member and a former Ravenclaw, she is clever enough to know what she wants and powerful enough in her own right to get it. She has a political mind and a flirtatious manner and though scandal surrounds her the way it so often does around beautiful and powerful witches, she has worked hard and earned her way to where she is. Growing up, life proved to her how often others would try to control her, in some of the worst ways, but she refused to let that beat her and now there is only one person who controls her life and that is herself.

Gideon Prewett is an Obliviator and with the increasingly bloody and all-consuming war, his job is only getting more and more involved as the Muggles get dragged more and more into the fray. He may be one half of the infamous and mischievous Prewett twins, but he and his brother Fabian are both individuals. Gideon is an Order member and a Gryffindor alumnus, brave and true, but also thoughtful and intelligent. He values these traits in others and does his best to keep a level head in tough times, though don’t let that fool you into thinking he won’t stand up for himself. He loves a good laugh and above all his family.

Fenrir Greyback and Hestia Jones

Could there be two characters more different? And yet, within the most contrasting of personalities we sometimes find kinship. Such is the case with Fenrir Greyback and Hestia Jones.

Fenrir is a living complication, an incarnation of contrasts. Man and beast, bully and protector, loner and leader. He joined the Death Eaters not out of any great loyalty to the Dark Lord or his Cause, but rather because it served his own interests. He’s the leader of a ragtag pack of werewolves, children that he found and turned, and an assortment of dogs. He’s prideful, violent and dominating, but towards his ‘pups’ he displays a caring, if strict, paternal air.

Hestia Jones is a former Hufflepuff, an Order member and a cheerful and friendly young woman who sees the best in people. She hides her low self-esteem and her fears behind a smile and kind words. The cruelty of a past lover has left her skittish at the notion of romance and unsure whether she is truly deserving of happiness. Yet Fenrir sees her inner strength, the protectiveness and fearlessness of a wolf. She, in turn, sees in the werewolf a better side no one else sees, a protector of lost children and a man marked by his nature but not condemned by it.

A tenuous romance is budding, but how long can love last when you’re on opposite sides of a war?

Each and every character involved is unique and fascinating in their own right and they each have a role to play in the events of the war. Get to know who you could be joining forces with or fighting against!

Alastor Moody and Alice Longbottom

The Aurors play a huge role in the Wizarding War and Alastor Moody and Alice Longbottom are right on the front lines. On top of that, Moody and Alice are both members of the Order of the Phoenix, meaning they’re fighting against the Death Eaters on and off the job.

Head Auror Alastor Moody lives up to his name. Grumpy, curt and unwilling to suffer fools, his job is his life and he’s damn good at it. Trust no one, suspect everyone and always remember : constant vigilance! In the past year, amidst the darkness and terror of the war, however, something else has thrown his existence into disarray. Someone else.

Alice Longbottom is a spider’s web; as strong as she is delicate, as beautiful as she is complex. The war hasn’t been kind to her and some days she feels like she might just drown in it. Whip-smart and not to be trifled with, anyone fooled by her small stature and quiet nature would soon discover the danger of messing with her. She’s determined to hide just how broken she is, letting only one person truly see all her shattered pieces.

A Pyrrhic Victory Harry Potter roleplay “Meet the Characters”

Each and every character involved is unique and fascinating in their own right and they each have a role to play in the events of the war. Get to know who you could be joining forces with or fighting against!

Amelia and Edgar Bones

These two siblings are at once alike and different. Amelia was a Gryffindor back at Hogwarts and it shines through in her innate sense of justice and her bravery. A Hitwitch for the Ministry’s department of Magical Law Enforcement and a member of the Order of the Phoenix, fighting against Lord Voldemort’s forces is both her job and her calling. She’s petite and wide-eyed, but tenacious in the pursuit of justice and a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. A witty and charming young woman, Amelia nonetheless has a difficult time getting close to people, living alone save for her dog, Schafer.

One person Amelia is close to is her brother, Edgar. The middle child of the three Bones siblings (ask them about their elder brother Lance, golden child of their family and general pain in the arse), Ed is a former Ravenclaw, a jovial young researcher for the Ministry, a husband to arguably the most formidable witch to ever grace the Hufflepuff house and father of two small children. Pacifistic by nature and honest nearly to a fault, the war wears more at him everyday, but he knows he joined the Order to fight for what is right. Ask him about ice cream!
